Privacy Policy — Written for Students
Socrates Educational Platform Last Updated: March 9, 2026
Hey! This is about your privacy.
This page explains what information Socrates collects about you, what we do with it, and what your rights are. We wrote it so it is easy to understand — no confusing legal language.
There is also a longer, more detailed version that your parents or guardians can read.
What is Socrates?
Socrates is a learning tool. You upload your homework, and we turn it into fun games and quizzes to help you learn. We also have a tutoring helper that answers your questions, kind of like a really patient teacher.
What information do we collect about you?
Here is everything we keep track of:
Things you tell us
- Your name and email address — so you can log in and we know who you are.
- Your grade level — so we can make games that are the right difficulty for you.
- Your school (only if you want to tell us) — this is totally optional.
- Your homework — the photos, documents, or text you upload so we can make games from them.
- Your messages — anything you write to your family members on the platform.
- Your avatar choices — what your character looks like (hair color, toga style, etc.).
Things we figure out while you use Socrates
- Your game scores — how you did on each game.
- Your conversations with the tutor — the questions you ask and the help you get.
- Your Socrates Coins — how many drachmas you have earned and spent.
- When you log in — so we can track your streaks and show your progress.
Things our computers notice automatically
- What kind of device you are using — so the games look right on your phone, tablet, or computer.
- A login cookie — a tiny piece of data that keeps you logged in so you do not have to log in every single time.
What do we do with your information?
We use your information to:
Make games from your homework. We use smart computer programs (called AI) to read your homework and turn it into games. The AI looks at your homework to understand what you are learning, then creates questions and activities about those topics.
Help you when you are stuck. The tutoring helper uses AI to answer your questions and give you hints.
Show you and your family how you are doing. Your progress, scores, and streaks are visible to you and the guardians in your family.
Send you login links. When you want to log in, we email you a special link. That is the only reason we email you.
Keep the platform safe. We watch for anything that should not be on the platform, like inappropriate content.
Who else sees your information?
We do NOT sell your information to anyone. We do NOT show you ads. Here is who does see some of your information:
Anthropic and OpenAI — these are the companies that make the AI programs we use. When you upload homework, the text and images get sent to their computers so the AI can read it. They do NOT get your name or email. They do NOT use your homework to train their AI.
Cloudflare — this company helps protect our website from hackers. They can see that you visited our site, but not the details of what you do.
Resend — this company delivers the login emails we send you. They see your email address and the login link.
Your guardians — the parents or caregivers in your family can see your progress, scores, messages, and how you are using Socrates. This is so they can support your learning.
How long do we keep your information?
- Your account info — as long as you have an account, plus 30 days after it is deleted.
- Your homework uploads — for 1 year after you last looked at them.
- Your tutor conversations — for 6 months.
- Your game scores — for 1 year.
- Your messages — as long as your family account exists.
When we delete your information, it is gone for good. We do not keep secret copies.
Cookies (not the delicious kind)
We use 3 small cookies. They are all needed to make the site work:
- Session cookie — keeps you logged in.
- Security cookie — protects you from certain types of attacks.
- Redirect cookie — remembers what page to take you to after you log in.
That is it. No tracking cookies. No advertising cookies. Nothing sneaky.
What are your rights?
You have rights over your information:
- See it. You can ask to see all the information we have about you.
- Fix it. If something is wrong (like a misspelled name), you can ask us to fix it.
- Delete it. You (or your guardian) can ask us to delete your information.
- Take it with you. You can ask for a copy of your data.
If you are under 13, your parent or guardian handles these requests for you.
What about your parents/guardians?
Your parent or guardian:
- Had to give permission before your account was created (especially if you are under 13).
- Can see everything in your account.
- Can ask us to delete your account and all your data.
- Can tell us to stop collecting your information (but this would mean you cannot use Socrates anymore).
