Cookie Policy
Socrates Educational Platform Effective Date: March 9, 2026 Last Updated: March 9, 2026
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device (computer, phone, or tablet) by your web browser when you visit a website. They allow the website to remember information about your visit, such as whether you are logged in.
2. How Socrates Uses Cookies
Socrates uses a small number of cookies that are strictly essential for the Platform to function. We do not use any cookies for tracking, analytics, advertising, or any purpose other than making the Platform work correctly.
Because all of our cookies are essential for basic Platform functionality, we do not display a cookie consent banner. You cannot use Socrates without these cookies, as they are required for authentication and security.
3. Cookies We Use
| Cookie Name | Purpose | Set By | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
next-auth.session-token |
Stores your encrypted session after you log in via magic link. This is what keeps you logged in as you navigate the Platform. Without this cookie, you would need to log in on every page. | Socrates (NextAuth) | Session — expires when you close your browser, or after a period of inactivity | Essential / Functional |
next-auth.csrf-token |
A security token that protects against Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) attacks. CSRF attacks trick your browser into performing actions you did not intend. This cookie prevents that. | Socrates (NextAuth) | Session — expires when you close your browser | Essential / Security |
next-auth.callback-url |
Temporarily stores the URL you were trying to visit when you were redirected to log in. After authentication, you are redirected back to this URL. | Socrates (NextAuth) | Session — expires when you close your browser | Essential / Functional |
4. Cookies We Do NOT Use
To be clear about what we do not do:
- No analytics cookies. We do not use Google Analytics, Plausible, Fathom, Matomo, or any other analytics service.
- No advertising cookies. We do not display ads and do not use any advertising tracking.
- No social media cookies. We do not embed social media widgets that set cookies.
- No third-party tracking cookies. No third party sets cookies through our Platform.
- No profiling cookies. We do not build behavioral profiles of our users through cookies.
- No preference cookies. User preferences (such as dark/light mode) are handled through other mechanisms, not cookies.
5. Cloudflare
Our Platform is served through Cloudflare, which provides security and performance services. Cloudflare may set its own cookies (such as __cf_bm or cf_clearance) in certain circumstances, such as when it needs to verify that a visitor is not a bot. These cookies are:
- Set by Cloudflare, not by Socrates.
- Used solely for security purposes (bot detection, DDoS protection).
- Not used for tracking or advertising.
- Temporary and session-based.
For more information about Cloudflare's cookies, see Cloudflare's cookie policy.
6. Managing Cookies
You can manage cookies through your browser settings. Here is how to access cookie settings in major browsers:
- Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences > Privacy > Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Manage and delete cookies and site data
Important: If you disable or delete the cookies used by Socrates, you will be logged out and will need to re-authenticate via magic link each time you visit the Platform. The Platform cannot function without its essential cookies.
7. Updates to This Policy
If we change the cookies we use, we will update this Cookie Policy and revise the "Last Updated" date. If we introduce any non-essential cookies in the future, we will implement a cookie consent mechanism before deploying them.
