Accessibility Statement
Socrates Educational Platform Effective Date: March 9, 2026 Last Updated: March 9, 2026
1. Our Commitment
Socrates Educational Platform is committed to ensuring that our learning tools are accessible to all students, including those with disabilities. Education should be available to everyone, and we are actively working to make our Platform conform to established accessibility standards.
2. Accessibility Standard
We are working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines define how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive disabilities.
3. Current Accessibility Features
The Platform currently includes the following accessibility features:
3.1 Visual Accessibility
- Dark mode support. The Platform offers both light and dark themes, which can benefit users with light sensitivity or visual fatigue. The theme uses Tailwind CSS
dark:classes for consistent implementation. - Responsive design. The interface adapts to mobile, tablet, and desktop screen sizes, ensuring usability across devices and zoom levels.
- Semantic HTML. Pages use proper heading hierarchy (
h1throughh6), landmark regions (nav, main, header, footer), and meaningful HTML elements to support screen reader navigation. - Color contrast. Our Ancient Greek color palette has been selected with contrast ratios in mind, targeting WCAG AA contrast requirements for normal and large text.
3.2 Navigation
- Keyboard navigation. Core Platform features (login, navigation menus, page links, buttons) are operable via keyboard.
- Mobile-first design. The bottom navigation bar on mobile and sidebar on desktop provide clear, consistent navigation patterns.
- Skip to content. Main pages include skip navigation links for keyboard users.
3.3 Authentication
- Passwordless login. Magic-link email authentication eliminates the need to remember or type passwords, which can be a barrier for users with certain motor or cognitive disabilities.
3.4 Content
- Text-based content. AI-generated games are rendered from structured data, meaning game content is primarily text-based and available to assistive technologies.
- Alt text for images. Platform UI images and character illustrations include descriptive alt text.
4. Known Limitations
We are transparent about areas where accessibility is not yet fully achieved. We are actively working on improvements:
4.1 Interactive Games
- Drag-and-drop interactions in certain game types may not be fully operable via keyboard or screen reader. We are working on alternative input methods for these interactions.
- Timed game elements may not provide sufficient time for all users. We plan to add configurable time limits and untimed modes.
- Game animations (Framer Motion) may cause issues for users with motion sensitivities. We plan to implement
prefers-reduced-motionsupport to disable or reduce animations.
4.2 Study Audio
- Study audio transcripts are not yet available alongside generated audio content. We are working on providing text transcripts for all audio materials.
4.3 Character and Avatar System
- SVG character expressions and animations may not convey information to screen reader users. We plan to add descriptive text alternatives.
4.4 Content Proxy
- Embedded third-party educational content served through our content proxy may have varying levels of accessibility, which we cannot fully control.
4.5 Charts and Visualizations
- Progress charts may not be fully accessible to screen readers. We plan to add data tables as alternatives to visual charts.
5. Compatibility
The Platform is designed to be compatible with:
- Modern browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge (current and previous major versions).
- Screen readers: VoiceOver (macOS/iOS), NVDA (Windows), TalkBack (Android). Compatibility is being actively tested and improved.
- Browser zoom: The interface remains usable when zoomed to 200%.
- Text resizing: Content reflows appropriately when text size is increased through browser settings.
6. Our Improvement Plan
We are committed to continuously improving accessibility. Our current priorities are:
- Implement
prefers-reduced-motionto respect user motion preferences in all animations. - Add study audio transcripts for all generated audio content.
- Improve game keyboard accessibility by adding keyboard alternatives for drag-and-drop interactions.
- Add data table alternatives for progress charts and visualizations.
- Conduct formal accessibility audit using both automated tools and manual testing with assistive technologies.
- Add configurable game timers so students who need more time can adjust or disable time limits.
- Improve screen reader experience for SVG characters and avatar customization.
7. Requesting Accommodations
If you need an accommodation to use the Platform effectively, please let us know. We will work with you to find a solution. Examples of accommodations we may be able to provide:
- Alternative formats for game content.
- Extended or removed time limits on game activities.
- Manual data exports if the Platform's export features are not accessible.
- Guidance on optimal browser and assistive technology settings.
8. Feedback and Contact
We welcome feedback on the accessibility of the Platform. If you encounter an accessibility barrier, or if you have suggestions for improvement:
Email: [email protected] Subject line: "Accessibility Feedback" or "Accessibility Request"
When reporting an accessibility issue, please include:
- A description of the problem.
